Sri Lanka is an island
of Sunny beaches, a palm fringed coastline, an abundance of rivers,
streams and cascading waterfalls, a heartlands of cool misty mountains,
forests containing a variety of exotic flora, and fauna, from leopards,
to herd of majestic elephants, birds from the tiny ‘tailor
bird’ to the gorgeously coloured peacock, reptiles from crocodiles
to pythons, conjure visions of a jungle paradise.
Far from it, Sri Lanka is a country with a colourful history of
an advanced civilization that dates back to the pre-Christian era,
as evidenced from the ruined remains of palaces, irrigation systems
and places of worship, which bear testimony to the advances the
ancient Sri Lankans had made in culture and technology.
Sri Lanka, today, is a country that possess international five-star
hotels, exotic beach resorts, a modernised, strategically located
sea port, an international airport and modern transport and communications
systems.
